Empire Theory 2?

Es ist immer noch nicht so einfach, Tides Of Man eine eindeutige Musikrichtung zuzuweisen. Ihr zweites Album ist immer noch sehr rocklastig, aber diesmal ein bisschen härter, fordernder, direkter. Progressive Rock mit einer Spur von Emo und Screamo, denn für diese Platte hat Tilian sein zartes Stimmchen noch hergegeben, bis er dann Ende 2010 den Abmarsch machte. Wollen wir hoffen, dass das nicht das Ende von Tides Of Man ist – aber sie halten ja schon Castings für neue Sänger.

Und auch hier wieder finden wir nur zehn Songs, die aber diesmal tatsächlich ein bisschen kürzer gehalten sind. Klar, die Produktionszeit war auch ziemlich kurz, deswegen finde ich auch das erste Album noch einen Tick besser – aber nichtsdestotrotz wird hier mal alles reingebastelt von den Jungs.

Und schon wieder fällt es mir nicht leicht, mich für einen Favoriten zu entscheiden. Jedes Lied hat irgendwie mindestens eine Stelle, bei der sich mir die Nackenhaare aufstellen vor musikalischem Genuss, und das macht es ziemlich schwer sich zu entscheiden. Aber ich denke, diesmal nehme ich Chemical Fires.

Da kann mir doch keiner erzählen, dass das keine gute Musik ist!

Schwierig, schwierig…

… die Musikrichtung von Tides Of Man zu bestimmen. Klar, es ist schon Rock. Alternative Rock auch schon ein bisschen. Post-Hardcore ist aber auch mit drin, und an manchen Stellen bringt Tilian Pearson ein bisschen Emo und Screamo mit ein. Da muss ich ja ziemlich viele Häkchen ankreuzen diesmal. Aber ich mach es gern, denn Empire Theory läuft bei mir eigentlich rauf und runter.

Zuerst schaut man überrascht auf die wenigen Tracks, doch dann stellt man sehr schnell fest, dass der kürzeste Song immer noch 3:39 Minuten geht, der längste sogar über sieben Minuten. Also hat man alles in allem doch fast 50 Minuten schnelle Gitarren und heiße Lyrics.

Mein Tipp!

Angefangen hab ich natürlich mit Knowing That You’ve Already Arrived, aber mittlerweile bin ich mir nicht mehr so sicher, welches Lied mein Favorit ist. Seit gestern abend finde ich Contents Within irgendwie noch ein Stückchen besser, deswegen werde ich das mal hier einbinden.

Die Version ist zwar grottenschlecht, aber echte Genießer hören sich das sowieso nicht auf Youtube an… Und holen sich dann das ganze Album. Ich kann es wirklich empfehlen.

Schattenriss vom Feinsten

Ganze acht Sekunden dauert es, bis man die Musik von Arms Like Yours eindeutig in eine Sparte einsortiert hat. Sanft und atmosphärisch beginnt das Album, aber dann bricht ein fulminantes Schlagzeug-Gesangs-Gitarrenfeuerwerk los, das sich fast eine halbe Stunde hält. Wie so oft bei den von mir empfohlenen Titeln ist diese EP nur sechs Tracks lang, aber die haben es in sich.

Mein Tipp!

Bei Split The Sea hab ich jetzt einfach mal das Herzchen absichtlich weggelassen, obwohl der Track auch verdammt gut ist, aber ich kann ja nicht ständig alles super finden. Obwohl, warum eigentlich nicht? Immerhin empfehle ich die Musik ja deswegen.
Dieses Mal ist mein Favorit erst ein paar Tage alt, obwohl ich das Album schon eine Weile höre, aber erst vor kurzem wurde ich auf eine bestimmte Textstelle im Song Inhale Exhale aufmerksam, die ihn ruckartig auf den ersten Platz dieser feinen EP bombardiert. Und weil auch der Rest der Lyrics sehr schön ist, markiere ich die betreffende Stelle einfach nur mal fett. Im Youtube-Clip fängt es so bei 2:30 an…

Und jetzt behaupte noch mal einer, das wäre nicht allerfeinster Emo-Rock! Bei der Stelle könnte ich regelmäßig dahinschmelzen, und ich werde sie mir über die nächsten Tage und Wochen dermaßen in die Ohren dröhnen, dass ich bald nichts mehr davon hören kann und eine neue gute Band empfehlen muss. Ich hab auch schon im Hinterkopf, wer das sein wird…

Das Album des Jahres?

Wer so richtig was für gute Musik übrig hat, der erinnert sich bestimmt noch an die beiden Alben von 30 Seconds To Mars, die ich bisher vorgestellt habe. Und wer reingehört hat und sich kräftig was auf die Ohren hat geben lassen, der weiß auch, dass Jared Leto und seine Jungs es mächtig draufhaben mit dem Post-Hardcore-Rock mit ein bisschen Emo-Gekreisch. Nun ist es endlich soweit und das dritte – und meiner Meinung nach beste – Album ist endlich rausgekommen.

Verfluchter Mist, ich kann gar nicht aufhören zu fluchen. Wieso? Weil das so verdammt gute Musik ist, das hab ich wirklich kaum erwarten können. Ich bin so dermaßen hin und weg, dass ich eigentlich schon wieder kurz davor bin, allen Tracks ein Herzchen zu geben… Aber ich soll ja kritisch sein, also muss ich wohl etwas differenzierter an die Sache rangehen. Tja, was gibt es zu sagen? Insgesamt klingt das neue Album nicht großartig anders als die vorherigen, vielleicht etwas metallischer und ein paar ungewohntere Elemente, aber eigentlich sind die Jungs ihrem gewohnt guten Stil treu geblieben und rocken das Haus, bis die Schwarte kracht. Und glaubt mir: Das, was im Radio als Single-Auskopplung andauernd gespielt wird, ist nur der Anfang.

Mein Tipp!

An dieser Stelle will ich noch mal auf zwei Dinge hinweisen: Die europäische Variante des Albums hat eventuell ein anderes, sehr viel hässlicheres Cover – und womöglich gibt es statt der letzten beiden Lieder nur einen anderen Track namens L490. Ich weiß auch nicht wieso das so ist… Jedenfalls ist bei meinem US-Import alles so wie es sein soll. Wunderschönes Cover und zwei niedliche Tracks am Ende.
So, jetzt aber zu meiner Empfehlung für dieses Album, auch wenn es mir schwerfällt… Obwohl, eigentlich gar nicht. Das Lied, was ich wirklich immer und immer wieder anhören könnte, nennt sich Hurricane. So wie Linkin Park und Jay-Z eine kleine Hop-Rock-Kombination gemacht haben, taten sich hier 30 Seconds To Mars mit dem dummen Bastard Kanye West zusammen, um dieses Meisterwerk zu schaffen, und selbst wenn man den Proll nicht ausstehen kann, muss man einfach zugeben dass es ihnen gelungen ist.

Besonders bei der Passage Do you really want? Do you really want me? bekomme ich regelmäßig Gänsehaut… Und ich höre das Lied andauernd, während ich diesen Eintrag schreibe. Ich bin verliebt, und zwar in dieses Lied. Mal sehen, wann es mir zu den Ohren wieder rauskommt.
